This Time of Year.

I live in Ohio. Still, this time of year tends to be bittersweet to me.

I love the Fall…but I know what’s coming.  So, it tends to be a love-hate thing for me.

I was born in the Fall.  I absolutely love the colors in the Fall.  I love when the air turns crisp, when the sun is still shining, when runs become more comfortable.  I love marathon season, which leads nicely into trail season. I love hot soup and hot cider.  And all things pumpkin!

I love Halloween. Full disclosure- Halloween is my favorite holiday.  I love the dusk hours and the darkness when night time sets in, almost as much as I love the sunrise in the morning.  I get a bit melancholy, but it’s just who I am.

Halloween leads right into All Souls Day and All Saints Day, which, again, are my favorite holidays.

Yet, I know what lurks around the corner.  The winter is something totally different.  Grey skies, bitter cold, a lack of energy. I don’t mind December, since I have Christmas to look forward to.  But, after that, the months seem so long.

So, here we are at Fall.  The days are growing shorter.  Triathlon season is over. No more outdoor swims.  Rides outside are few and far between. The sun seems to become a bit of a stranger.  The leaves will fall, and the trees will sleep.

Getting outside for trail time is so important right now.  And I’m glad I got to get out for some head clearing yesterday.  Here are some of the colors I saw.

Enjoy the colors on the trails.  Run Happy. Run Long, Friends.
