Ok, people, let’s be real. We live in Ohio. The weather is as fickle as you can get, and you know what that means as a runner….you’re going to have to suck it up sometimes and get on the “dreadmill”. During our unpredictable summer, at least we have early light and late dusk, so if there’s a pop up shower or storm, you might still have the option to work around the weather to squeeze in a run. But, what if you work, have the kids in activities, or other scheduled activities that really limit your schedule when it comes to getting your run in?
Enter, Treadmill TV. I discovered this little gem from a friend of mine and her husband, and it was a lifesaver. If you’re like me, you like to get your run in as early as possible so that you don’t “what if” yourself to death for the rest of the day. That means when its too dark to run in the am, or too cold, or it’s raining, you have to make it work. So, my friend and her husband started TM TV and it is now my go-to when I have to suck it up and hit the old hamster wheel in the basement.
So, what is this magical tool that I speak of? Well, it’s a channel on YouTube where my buddies go running and film the actual run. You tune into YouTube and can choose a location for your run. There are so many venues now, I can’t list them all. Just recently, they began to partner with other runners that do the same thing, and know you can run in other countries, too.
If you like “running local”, you can run at the usual haunts like Highbanks, where you can run in the snow if you want. You can run at Antrim Lake in the summer or winter. Or, if you are feeling adventurous, you can even run the Grand Canyon!
Other tricks? If you have some that you have used in the past, please comment on this blog so we can all share your ideas : )
